Description
This is a Purple Stripe garlic and quite beautiful to look at. Deerfield Purple is an excellent choice for roasting and baking since it holds its flavor extremely well. With 8-12 cloves per head typically, it has roughly double the cloves per head of our four Porcelain varieties. We were the first growers of Deerfield Purple in the Midwest and it came to us from a colleague working with a farm in Oregon called Deerfield farm. The farm acquired it from a seed bank in eastern Washington which acquired it from a seed bank in East Germany when the Berlin wall fell. It originally came from Vietnam but who knows if it came overland from Russia over many centuries or if the French brought it during colonization. Anyway, all you need to know is this is a great eater!
